i found this in the church basement thrift shop. half price. i thought it would make a hilarious joke christmas present. you know, fill it up with pretty christmas cookies so the person thinks, "how nice", only to be HORRIFIED when the cookies are gone! hahaha!

brian had other ideas.

christmas golden book cuteness extravaganza!!!

i can't get enough of these little golden books. especially the richard scary illustrations (rudolph). and those skiing elves??? gaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

folded paper star tutorial

these paper stars are fast and easy and make great ornaments! or, stick one on a package or in a card. i
hope you can follow my instructions. if you have any questions, leave me a comment!

these work best with a sturdy sort of paper, such as book pages or music sheets. i have made them with maps, which are really pretty, but they tend to come apart more easily. you can put a dab of glue to hold them together if you have this problem. origami paper would also be great.

here goes!

start with eight pieces of paper, 1 1/2" wide by 3" long.

fold each piece in half lengthwise. *note: keep the prettiest side of your paper on the outside.

now, with the folded edge on top and the open edge on the bottom, fold each end up at a right angle (the paper i used was very old and ripped a bit when i folded it, but that is the folded edge at the top, it just looks a little ripped!) 

fold each of these pieces in half.

insert the points of one piece into the little pockets on the open edge of another piece.

you will have something like this. continue inserting all of the other pieces into one another!

square things up a bit as you go.

when you have all eight pieces together, insert the first piece into the last!

and VOILA!!! a lovely little star!

christmas campers

well, i had this great idea for a post showing this phenomenon that i have noticed of people selling christmas trees in parking lots and staying in vintage campers. i was very excited.  however, the lack of sun and SNOW (!) has left me a bit disappointed.....these three i drive by every day on my way to work.

that shasta is super cute, but the man who works there is looooney tunes! wow! if you go there for your tree, make it snappy!

busy weekend ahead. *sigh*

i just love this duet.....i remember my mother got me out of bed to watch this when it came on tv. i was in high school and a big bowie fan!

some christmas bling

i've been "sprucing" things up a bit around here. we usually don't get a tree as our house is quite small, ( and i live with a "humbug-ian") , but i love the wonderful smell of greens in the house and they are so pretty!! so, what i do , is make a garland out of people's tree trimmings that i find...at the dump! it's great-i go to the big compost heap and there are piles of branches, free for the taking!

i also have my little deer collection, and a couple of vintage santas, so we're looking a little festive!

i really wish i wouldn't keep losing my christmas lists.......

gingerbread folks

it's cookie time at the bakery, and i think my favorites are the gingerbread folks-yuuuuuummy!!

no, that's not me in the second picture. that's mrs. claus, although i feel like if i wore a white wig i could maybe pass for her...(i've been eating a few too many gingerbreads i think!!)  i would totally wear that dress though!

i do love deer, especially vintage-y deer. gives me one more thing to collect! i did a bit of christmas decorating this weekend , visited an alpaca farm(my photos were disappointing...), and knit, knit, knit.

i'm having some delicious peach jam on my toast this morning that i got at the church fair this weekend. sooooo good!

a dreary day here, but i'm excited to go to my friend laura's christmas concert today. i love christmas music, but only in december! have a good sunday!!!

still feeling lazy after a lovely thanksgiving, but i have a lot of finishing up to do for CRAFT FIX on sunday.
