brimfield!!
this past friday brian and i both took the day off from work and went to brimfield, mass. to the BIG antiques fair. it was really fun despite the drizzly weather. i didn't get many photos in the rain, but i HAD to get one of this adorable little camper with its crocheted tire cover! how cute is that!?!?! if i had a spare tire on my camper i would certainly be working on a crocheted cover as we speak!
we didn't get many things, but i found these aqua pillowcases that are about the best pillowcases i've ever seen! i loooove them!
violet likes them too. is that a little claw i see stuck into my pillow, naughty kitty!! claws and crochet do not mix!
happy monday!

two exciting things!!
first of all, my camper is in another magazine! a couple of years ago a crew came and photographed our house and the camper for magazines that focused on "flea market style". i didn't know that they'd used the photos again for this magazine. thanks for the heads up cheryl and celeste!
and.......TA DA!! i finished my sweater! i have to say it is a bit on the "roomy" side...when i first tried it on my heart sank as it didn't fit as i had imagined. so that whole night i kept waking up thinking "i'll just rip it all out and start over". yuck! but the next morning i tried it on again and decided it's not so bad after all. it's so soft and comfortable, and i just love the color! i should've gone down a size i think, but it is definitely wearable. i enlisted brian for the "photo shoot" in our ever-so-lovely spring backyard, grey snow and mud. but that will soon be gone!
i really enjoyed knitting this! i'm glad to be done so i can move on to other projects which have been percolating...
i hope you are enjoying your weekend!!!!!!!!!

dumb in dummerston
on sunday we took a road trip to dummerston, vermont where there was a vintage camper rally going on. we went to it last year and there were so many cool old campers. i was excited to get some great pictures! so we drive into the campground, which is looking suspiciously empty, only to find out that everybody had left around noon time and we were there at 2:00!!!!! so disappointing, but we did see this cute little coleman camper that looks like it could fit in your back pocket.
so we did some exploring and stopped at this covered bridge in dummerston where lots of folks were cooling off in the river. we also got some cheese at the grafton village cheese shop-seriously delicious !
i have, however, smartened up a bit in the quilting department. i originally found a great tutorial for the x and + quilt here. it's a great tutorial, but the blocks are only 7 1/2" square. at that rate i would never finish the quilt! so in the middle of the night the other night i started figuring in my head how to make it bigger and got up and wrote all of the measurements down, rather proud of myself and my mad math skills! the next day i made a paper mock-up, thankfully, because my figuring was complete bull$*&#! was i dreaming or what?!
so i have since found this
which yields a 13" square. that's more like it! hopefully after i make a few more blocks i'll have this out of my system for a while so i can return to my secret project, which i should be working on!!
happy hump day!

happy friday!
so sorry for lack of posting this week! it has been quite dreary (although we really need the rain!), and all of the photos i've taken this week have basically been crap!
the new cd by "the national" came out this week, and it is soooooooooo good. slow and dreamy, beautiful and sad... here is some music by the national to start off your weekend on the right foot!

yesterday
we headed up to alfred, maine yesterday for a maple syrup festival, which actually turned out to be today...but we found this hot dog camper. pretty great! i had to take the inside shot to show you that his curtains match his truck! wow! the hot dogs were very tasty! we just had the "regular" hot dogs. i don't know about you, but those red ones give me the creeps! i was surprised to see that he had to have 4 sinks in that little camper! i know that's a restaurant requirement, but in a camper....i mean, what does he have to wash really, but a pair of tongs??
we went to a little antique shop and i found some wonderful treasures. i loooove that little planter!! and i found a couple of christmas cards. (kelly might find that poodle card in his mailbox next year!)
then we made a stop at marden's in sanford, maine. sewers, if you haven't been to marden's, you must go! they have a huge fabric section, and it's cheap, cheap, cheap! all the fabrics are from $2.99 to $4.99 a yard, and they have nice stuff! even some big names(denyse schmidt, amy butler-you have to look around!) i'm going to make some napkins with some of this. i love having cloth napkins. i used to be rather fussy about making them; reversible, with trim...then someone wanted me to make them a lot of napkins for an event, and they just wanted 20" squares, just raw edges, very simple! i made them and washed them, and they frayed nicely on the edges, and now that's how i make my napkins!
i spotted the aqua camper in someone's backyard, so i had to sneak a picture. looks like a brand new paint job!
have a nice sunday! i'm hoping it will warm up like the weathermen predicted.......

so long, mr. mouse!
i went out to the camper this afternoon to give things a look see. i was afraid of water perhaps leaking in with all of the snow and melting that has been going on lately. thankfully everything looked a.o.k.!!
and i must tell you an interesting thing. someone told me that you should take cotton balls soaked with peppermint essential oil and place them where you don't want mice. i've had a few furry winter visitors in the past out in the camper, so i really loaded that thing up with peppermint cotton balls. really, it smelled like a candy cane factory when i was through! i've checked out there a couple of times this winter, and i see absolutely no "evidence" of mice!!! so great! plus, it smells really nice in there! i may have overdone it a bit, but it's a nice smell! so, i'd say that this method has worked quite well!
looking forward to hanging out in there in the not-so-far-away future!

christmas campers
well, i had this great idea for a post showing this phenomenon that i have noticed of people selling christmas trees in parking lots and staying in vintage campers. i was very excited. however, the lack of sun and SNOW (!) has left me a bit disappointed.....these three i drive by every day on my way to work.
that shasta is super cute, but the man who works there is looooney tunes! wow! if you go there for your tree, make it snappy!
busy weekend ahead. *sigh*

camper crafts!
this weekend it was warm enough to sit out in the camper and crochet a few little circles. these are for garlands to sell at CRAFT FIX. i hang these everywhere, the bathroom(shown here), bedroom, dining room and even one on the chicken coop! they do quite well outside. such cheerful little strings of color, and a great way to use up all the odds and ends of yarn you may have.
back to work today after a very relaxing vacation. i did some sewing, and went out for breakfast quite a lot, which was nice, and watched a lot of movies. good to unwind before the bakery craziness of the holidays!
hope your week is off to a good start!
