happy 2014!!

here's what new year's eve looked like here! yup, pretty darn exciting. cribbage and champagne, but actually i wouldn't have wanted it any different!

i hope you're not growing too weary of the x and + square countdown. here are 27, 28, 29 and 30! after laying it all out i have decided that i only need 12 more squares!!!!! oh yeah, make that 13 because i withdrew one. i'm not liking the yellows (and here i've done another with yellow, but it's ok), so i may have to rethink a few squares.

i also did a lot of mitten knitting this morning, and here it is 3:00 and i am not even dressed... at this point i may not even bother! ( maybe my new year's resolution should be to get dressed on my days off :) ).

look at this sweeeeeeeeet vintage fabric that i got from a trade with a flickr friend! i just love it! so, hey, denyse schmidt, if you're looking for a new fabric design, i think a reproduction of this one would be the best!!! (because i know denyse schmidt is out there reading my blog-hahahahahaha!)

happy 2014 to you all!

sewing day, waiting for snowing day!

a very nice woman who knows i like to sew came into the bakery the other day and said she was cleaning out her attic and had a box of fabric for me. words i love to hear!! some of the fabric was straight out of the eighties and i love it!! here it is:

that black one on the right is soooooo great! reminds me of this, which i need to get!

that one above i found at the thrift shop for 26 cents! 1970's for sure!

so i worked today on my x and + quilt and used some of these fabrics. i'm at 26 squares now. 23 to go.....

lots of snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow. yay!!!!!!!!!

hope you're warm and cozy and enjoying your weekend!!

thrifty jackpot!

a while back i found this AMAZING vintage fabric at the flea market. SIX whole yards and in great shape!!

i was thinking i'd use it to back a quilt, but it's so nice i might put it together with these two other vintage fabrics that i haven't had the heart to cut into and make a whole cloth quilt. gears are churning!

in the meantime it's plenty of rest and hot tea to knock out this cold that i've finally gotten. yuck!

happy monday to you all!

bags for sale

my sewing weekend resulted in a  bunch of bags for the craft fair, which i should be posting some information about, right?! i will get that up soon, but can say now that it will take place on sunday, december 1st at buoy in kittery, maine. i believe the hours are 10-5!

i made some zip bags using my favorite echino fabric with the deer and flowers, and a few with a heavy olive green canvas paired with some sweet vintage fabrics and heavy zippers. see that  letter fabric at the top? that is one of brian's collages put onto fabric. how cool is that??

then the other day i found that super adorable christmas fabric and thought it would make some great reusable gift bags. anything with deer on it and i'm in!

damn cold out there today! i went up to the woods this afternoon to collect another bag full of pinecones in case it snows tonight. i do love snow!

happy hump day!

super lucky trade!

i did a trade the other day with my super talented quilter friend hannah. my part of the trade was a couple of crocheted garlands, and she said she had a "surprise" for me, which turned out to be a WHOLE BAG full of vintage sheets!!

that girl knows what i like!!

they are drying on the line right now. there is nothing lovelier than pretty sheets on the line on a sunny day! i  have some very special plans for them...yay!! thanks again, hannah!

saturday night's alright for fighting

a decidedly '70's vibe to my yardsale haul from this morning! i also got two of those woven webbing folding chairs, you know what i mean? i love those chairs! these however, sit really close to the ground. the older woman selling them to me said "they keep you down closer to your beer cooler. just don't try to stand up later!" true!

have a great saturday!

opening day!! (no, not baseball, the flea market!)

sunday was opening day of the flea market at todd farm in rowley, mass. i brought my camera intending to take lots of pictures, but i was waaaaaaaay too busy shopping to think about pictures! there were tons of vendors and tons of shoppers, and it was a gorgeous day. so much fun! here are some of the things i got!

some beautiful bits of vintage fabric and notions!!

i made a bee-line for this tin when i saw it! i love anything plaid, and i love cute tins/boxes. so, the guy said "you can have it for $5, and take all the stuff inside!" i was thrilled and didn't really look at the contents til later when i found...

super adorable vintage christmas ornaments!!!!! made me think of barbara.

i got these two "nature library" books published in 1926 and in excellent condition. not even smelly! they are FULL of beautiful, vibrant color plates:

a very successful day at the flea market! (now where will i put all of this stuff............)

vintage fabric eye candy!

i bought this little vintage quilt at the flea market last summer. some of those fabrics are killer!! i love how it is such a mish-mash of flowery and geometric, pretty and ugly. it all works somehow!

for bonus points, can anyone name the movie on the tv?????

fabric love

i went to the fabric shop yesterday "just to visit", but found this most adorable bear fabric that i LOVE! i  had to get it...because really i NEED more fabric (like a hole in the head, but you know how it is!) i'm going to use it with that awesome pink vintage fabric~~~i'll show you the results!

i found out yesterday that i am going to be participating in two group shows, coming up very soon! so i'll be crocheting every second for the next couple of months...

lovely warm(ish) day. i have the kitchen windows open which feels sooooo good. spring's coming!
